‘Winged Badger’ confident of gains ahead of next Saloon Car rounds
CCRC Saloon Car Championship regular Bill Brockbank believes a TCR-specification rear wing has given his SEAT Leon Cupra increased performance.
Brockbank (nickname ‘Badger’) ran the wing for the first in a recent track day arranged by CCRC in partnership with Hyland Motorsport.
He said: “I was only a second off my PB in less-than-ideal conditions because of the heat – plus of course the chicanes are tightened up a lot for track days.
“The wing creates more aero ‘drag’ but it means I can enter and exit corners quicker and with the front splitter we recently added it means the car is more stable all-round.
“On the run through Folly to Avon Rise I was hitting 154mph – that’s just that bit faster than I’ve managed before and it’s because of the exit speed out of the final corner, Camp.
“I’m convinced we’ve made some good progress and now looking forward to trying the car ‘in anger’ at the next event.”
CCRC’s Saloon Car Championship will appear at three further double-header fixtures at the Castle Combe circuit this season: 8-9 August, 31 August and 3 October.
