Regulation changes open door for exciting new machinery into Saloon Car Championship

A far wider variety of makes and models of car are now welcome into the CCRC’s South Cerney Engineering Limited Saloon Car Championship thanks to class structure changes.

2026’s championship regulations have brought a number of exciting updates across several classes, creating new opportunities for competitors and broadening eligibility for a range of popular performance cars.

With three events (six rounds) for the Saloon Car Championship still to run in 2026, now is an ideal time for competitors to join the grid and develop their cars ahead of a fuller campaign in 2027.

Class A Expanded

Class A now welcomes a wider selection of high-performance machinery, including:

  • Ford Focus ST
  • Mazda MPS
  • Audi RS3* 5-cylinder models
  • VW Golf VR6
  • BMW M2* M3 and M4*
  • Other larger-capacity saloons running on List 1A, 1B and 1C tyres

* Interest for 2027 and on an invitation basis for 2026

Class B Adjusted

Class B has been updated to include:

  • Ford Fiesta ST EcoBoost (1596cc)
  • Cupra Leon 1500cc
  • MINI Hatch 1.5 Cooper Classic (using the 1.7 coefficient)

This change naturally shifts the Class A boundary and helps ensure closer competition across the field.

Class D Opens Up to Modern Turbo Hatches

A reduced turbo coefficient of 1.4 now applies to turbocharged cars up to 1000cc, bringing a host of modern “mini” hatchbacks into contention, including:

  • Ford Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost
  • VW Polo 1.0 TSI
  • Renault Clio 1.0 TCe
  • Fiat 500
  • SEAT Ibiza 1.0 TSI

Class E Welcomes K24-Swapped Hondas

In a move sure to excite Honda enthusiasts, K24 engine-swapped Hondas are now eligible for Class E competition.
